Home Nursing Care: How to choose the right nursing service
Do you know that as a recipient of care, you have the right to choose your nursing service provider? You don’t have to put up with substandard care.
As a person with a disability or disease requiring care, following are some of the things you should expect from your nursing service;
- A tailored service specifically for your needs
- Appropraitely qualified and experienced nurses
- You should feel comfortable with the nurses who are sent into your home – you should be able to ask for a replacement if you are not
- The nursing service should involve you in decisions related to your service
- You should get a roster and always know who will be coming in next. You should be notified if there are any changes to that roster ‘before’ the shift
- They should also have a thorough quality system and visit you at home or call you regularly to check that you are happy with the service
If you have concerns about your service, talk to your current provider about those concerns, they should have a clear grievance procedure. If you are still not satisfied with the service, then talk to your case manager or the person organising the care and look into your options.
